The travel industry meets to Discover Puerto Plata
Puerto Plata is hosting Discover Puerto Plata once again this year. The event takes place from Wednesday 7 to Saturday, 10 October 2015 at the Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort in Cofresi, Puerto Plata and includes pre and post Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort meetings activities.
Discover Puerto Plata is the north coast destination's leading marketing event. Travel agents, tour operators and tourism product suppliers from the north coast will be taking part along with key Ministry of Tourism officials.
The official opening of Discover Puerto Plata is a Wednesday evening cocktail reception at the Hotel Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort, which is hosting the event. On Thursday, 8 October, a Fiesta Puerto Plata will be held, also at the Hotel Lifestyle, with a performance featuring the variety of dance styles that are part of Dominican history.
According to the organizers, there will be a choice of pre-and post tours on 6 and 10 October to World Adventure Park, Puerto Plata city tour, and a Sosua and Cabarete tour including a visit to Cabarete caves.

Amber Cove gets travel press coverage
With the arrival of the first cruise ship scheduled for this week, the international travel media is focusing on the new Amber Cove port in Maimon Bay, in the northern province of Puerto Plata. The new port was built in a tranquil cove west of Cofresi, Ocean World and Puerto Plata city. The Riu resorts (Merengue and Bachata) are nearby.
The first ship scheduled to arrive on 6 October is the 2,754-passenger Carnival Victory. The port was planned to accommodate up to 8,000 cruise ship passengers and 2,000 crewmembers daily.
President Danilo Medina is scheduled to attend the formal opening on Monday, 2 November 2015.
The two-berth Amber Cove Cruise Center Amber Cove was developed by Carnival Corporation and local shipping partner, the Rannik family of Grupo B&R at a cost of US$85 million to serve as base for exploring the attractions of the country's north coast.
It is planned to host more than 250,000 cruise passengers in its first year of operation. Cruise ships had not visited the north coast for over 30 years. In addition to Carnival Cruise ships, the port expects to host stops by Holland America, Princess, Cunard and Costa lines.
In August 2015, prior to the opening of the port, Carnival hosted the travel press for a sneak preview. Dominicana Moda 2015 opens 20 October
Dominicana Moda is taking place at the Hotel Embajador in Santo Domingo from 20-24 October 2015. The week-long event runway shows presents emerging Dominican talents alongside well established designers. The closing runway show is by Jean Paul Gaultier. While tickets must be purchased to see the runway shows, during the week a major exhibition of beauty and fashion is open throughout several halls of the Hotel Embajador.

Barcelo to host Dominican gastronomy week
Barcelo Bavaro Resort is promoting its Dominican Flavors Culinary Week, to be held from 15-22 November 2015 at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Adults Only and Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe in Punta Cana. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners highlighting Dominican cuisine, beer, rum and chocolate tastings are scheduled. There will also be live cooking and bartending shows.
