Long weekend coming for Constitution Day
Take note that Dominicans will soon break for the long weekend commemorating Constitution Day. The days to be taken off by many are from Friday, 6 November (the actual Constitution Day) through Monday, 9 November 2015, when Constitution Day will be celebrated. The holiday means peak domestic travel to destinations around the country.

Time for the DR Jazz Festival
Now in its 19th year, the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival promises five nights of free concerts 4-8 November in Santiago, Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete. Confirmed artists for 2015 include international jazz players David Sanchez Quartet and John Patitucci, and the Pedrito Martinez Group. From the Dominican Republic, Pengbian Sang and Retro Jazz, and Manuel Tejada will be playing, as well as Josean Jacobo, Javier Vargas and the Big Band of the Santo Domingo Music Conservatory. Marco Pignataro and Matt Marvuglio of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute will also be playing.
This year the festival will pay tribute to saxophone players Juan Colon, Crispin Fernandez and Sandy Gabriel.
The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism.
President Medina visits Amber Cove
President Danilo Medina was in Puerto Plata on Monday, 2 November 2015 for the formal ribbon-cutting ceremony of the two-berth US$85 million Amber Cove Cruise Center in Maimon Bay, Puerto Plata. The facility is a joint project between Carnival Corporation and the Rannik family of Grupo B&R. It is expected to host more than 250,000 cruise passengers in its first year of operation.
Attending for Carnival were Arnold Donald, chief executive officer of Carnival Corporation and Giora Israel, senior vice president strategic planning in charge of global port and destination development.
The Carnival Cruise Line-operated port is about a 15-minute drive from Puerto Plata city, but cruise passengers are offered around 40 different excursions.
The port has been receiving its first ships since the inaugural cruise on 6 October 2015. Amber Cove will receive in its first year of operations ships from AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Costa Cruises, Cunard, Holland America Line and P&O Cruises (UK). Among the ships is Cunard's Queen Mary 2 that will be making a stop on its world cruise on 22 November.
ASHONORTE publishes Puerto Plata tourism guide
The Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Companies of the North (Ashonorte) is circulating its new north coast tourism guide.
The guide is published in Spanish and English and is available for free distribution at the Puerto Plata International Airport, the new Amber Cove port, and at hotels in the area.

Air Serbia to connect DR with Serbia
Serbia and the Dominican Republic signed a Memorandum of Understanding relating to commercial air transport at the ICAO Air Services Negotiation Event (ICAN 2015) that took place through 23 October 2015 in Antalya, Turkey. The two sides said the Memorandum will be followed up by an Air Services Agreement. In the document, Air Serbia has been named as the designated carrier for potential scheduled and charter flights between the two countries.
