Flights to UK from DR
What is the best price for flying back to London Gatwick from POP ?
I usually buy a one way ticket for around US$500 ..
Can I get a POP-LGW-POP flight ? I have Residency here.
Thanks for your help.

Have just been made aware that OpenDNS are offering both one way and return tickets from POP to Gatwick now. Maybe this will help..

Hi,
I've been trying to book the same flight as Sylvia for a few weeks now and am having real problems. I have tried the link Shirley mentions, both over the internet and telephone and have drawn a blank. I have spoken to about four different people and they all tell me that if you didn't come into the country on a charter within the last 3 months they can't sell you one back. In addition, they say that flights from this end just aren't showing up on their systems. I think it may be before Shirley's post that I spoke to them, so may try again in case there has been a very recent change. I heard from a friend tonight that one couple had managed to book this route online via Thomsonfly so maybe it is now possible. I've spent hours trying.
I do have a couple of local (DR) phone numbers which I've been trying to get through to, but no joy yet, but with those you can only usually book a week in advance and I would normally prefer to make my arrangements earlier than that.
If anyone has anything to add to this, I'd be really grateful to hear from them either on the board or by PM.
Good luck, Sylvia.

Booked a Thomsonfly flight on Sunday morning (one way from POP to Gatwick) for 14th May for our friend, cost including meal and baggage allowance was £176 something... could not find any one-ways before the beginning of May and prices vary loads but it seems it is now possible to book both one-ways and returns from here to the UK with Thomson. If you want any more details Linda please PM or email me.

Well, that's good news and a good price. I do have to go before then, so that could be the hitch, but I will try again tomorrow. Thanks very much. I'll let you know how I get on.

Flights home
Sorry for butting into your conversation, but am so excited to see that there is a way out of here. I have been trying to get a cheap flight home now for a few months.
Where did you say you got the 176pound flight home. I am looking to go in June.
any help would be much appreciated.

You are not butting in at all Olivia and, be assured, there is always a way out of anywhere.... obviously you do not call the DR home yet!! You will see at post 4 on this thread that the one-way ticket for May was purchased from the Thomson website. If you need more info, either ask here or PM me.

Well, I rang Thomsonfly again and spoke to a most helpful girl called Helena, but it's luck of the draw who you get. She did her utmost to help but couldn't come up with what I needed, but it did show that one way and return flights ARE available again through Thomsonfly from this end. They didn't ask me this time how long I'd been here and whether I came in on a charter, which I have been regularly asked before.
I managed to buy my ticket through a local source - not possible to do so more than a week or two in advance - and the cost, one way, was $485. Let me know if you need more details and I will PM you.
Thanks for your help, Whirleybird.

I have bought standby tickets from POP, last time in Sept 07, for $320 payable only in dollars. The best day is Monday, followed by Wednesday, then Sat/Sun. Could can check the travel agents web sites to find out the arrival times and the plane will return to the UK an hour or so after then. You could I suppose phone the airline direct 6 days before the flight (when you know they will not be selling any more tickets) and see if there are seats.
If you buy a cheap return from the UK and only use the outward part and get a standby going back, this can be a cheap way of doing it if you want to away for more than 2/3 weeks.
