Default Segura out, Marranzini in....

I'm really surprised nobody has commented on this yet.

Leonel has fired Radhames Segura from the CDEEE, and gave the job to Celso Marranzini, who has been an outspoken critic of the former for quite a while.

Among other things, Marranzini has blasted Radhames on nepotism(are all of his 40 family members getting the boot too?), the bloated payrolls, the cost of electricity, etc. etc.

It should be very interesting to see what Celso gets done.....

Time to put up, or shut up..

When I saw that this morning at around 5 a.m. I thought to myself: Öh my God! What has he gotten himself into now??"

He probably has a lot of backing among the CONEP crowd, at least that is what is to be supposed as a former president. It will be interesting, that is for sure.

One thing that stands out in all the information out there. There is no way in he!! that the CDEEE can pay generators if only 45% of the people pay for electricity. Even if they continue to up the electricity rates...soon this will spill over into civic disobedience or outright revolt.

Talk about a rock and a hard place...

Of course he might just sti there for a year or so,,,there are not too many Marranzinis out there looking for jobs.

I did comment yesterday, JDJones, but on the Honduras thread so you probably didn't see it. I would have been more impressed if Leonel had really fired Segura........but he has moved him to adviser on energy matters so he'll still be on the payroll. It really doesn't send the right message, does it? If you're corrupt, sure, we'll fire you from your high profile job but we will still take care of you, you'll still get a salary and perks, maybe not quite as juicy as the last one, but......well you did have a good run, didn't you & your family did really well, didn't they?

LF pone a Marranzini en CDEEE; Frank vuelve alINDHRI; cambios dejan insatisfecha población

Commenting now, Mr. President, before constitutional changes don't allow a mere gringa tax payer to voice her thoughts.......

Default They can't get it right

Lambada posted what I was going to say. The message sent by Leonel is not a good one by keeping Segura on in any fashion.

Perhaps some good will come out of it, but I don't expect much change.

Leonel could care less what the people think at this point as he's not up for re-election in 2012, so he's taking care of the people who took care of him. It is actually a brilliant move to put Marranzini in charge, because now CONEP has nothing to complain about and if they don't fix the mess then they look bad. If they do end up improving something then Leonel still looks like he is a great leader, so win-win situation for him.

I agree it's a strategic move. Did you see that before Aug. 16th. a number of the Dominican blogs were running 'who should go?' polls. Segura was way out in front but the Attorney General was running second place in several. He's still in position, I assume? I would like to have seen Senator Wilton Guerrero as AG . That would have shaken things up a bit.

Guerrero has unfortunately proven to be all talk. Nothing has come out in regards to all his claims.

As per Celso, no one can fix the problem. This is the reality.

Not even a miracle?

All kidding aside...I don't know who this Celso guy is but if he isn't as corrupt as Segura (yes, I'm assuming he is corrupt, they all are) maybe things might get "a little better" in terms of energy in the DR.

Celso was a private business guy, working previously as President of Conep, the National Private Business Council. So he is a businessman. He has the support of Conep and the other business councils.

Is he corrupt? That remains to be seen. Will he fix the problem? It will take massive social changes to fix that problem.
