Default New and current info on Moon Palace - Punta Cana

From the travel industry publication "Travelweek"; September 21/2006 issue...

"Palace Resorts expands with first D.R. property under construction and set to open next year

By Camilla Roy

Set to open next year, Moon Palace Casino, Golf & Spa Resort will be the latest addition to Palace Resorts' line of all-inclusive luxury resorts and the brand's first property in the Dominican Republic.

Currently under construction, Moon Palace will be a beachfront resort with 1,743 rooms in Punta Cana.
"The addition of Moon Palace Casino, Golf & Spa Resort marks another exciting chapter in the development of Palace Resorts," said Roberto Chapur, president of Palace Resorts. "This stunning property will offer guests a luxurious yet affordable all-inclusive alternative while vacationing in the Dominican Republic."

The resort's well appointed rooms will be complete with double Jacuzzis, balconies with remarkable views, Farouk bath amenities, a fully stocked in room liquor dispenser that offers premium night caps as well as a mini bar replete with sodas, bottled water and domestic beers.
The property will also feature nine large outdoor pools, a full casino, eight distinct restaurants featuring Mexican, American, Italian, Oriental, Thai, Caribbean and Brazilian cuisine, six bars each featuring a different theme, a theatre with night productions, a spa with 54 treatment rooms and a disco.

The resort will also offer a top-of-the-line convention centre with more than 60,000 square feet of flexible, unobstructed meeting space. The convention centre will feature individual lighting, audio controls, wireless Internet, digital display boards and air conditioning that can be customized for all of the meeting rooms. This flexible meeting space will be an ideal setting for business meetings, cocktail parties, festive get-togethers and can accommodate groups as large as 2,560.

The first phase of Moon Palace is slated to open in late 2007, followed by phase two in 2008.”

Gregg

P.S. - Robert, if this is not allowed, please remove. I cannot find an on-line version to direct readers towards so I have done my best to properly cite the source publication and author.

Visited the project this week. It's huge and very high quality. They plan a soft opening in October 2008, but I'm sure you will not see "real" guests until late December.

I'll try and get photos and more detailed info and post it here.

I'm not really sure about golf but the mere act of having the word "Golf" in the name doesn't require their own golf course. For example the Majestic Colonial Punta Cana, Beach Resort, Golf, Casino and SPA is built adjacent to the new Punta Blanca Golf Course but the course is not part of the resort.

Just tried to book with their reservations office in Miami. They still do not have an opening date, they are hoping for December. The company apparently took a beating after the hurricanes in Cancun the past few years and spent fortunes in repairs, which slowed down the building in P.C When it does finally open, it will give the Melia a run for their money. They (Melia) will finally have some real competition.
