Dale, aqui se oye mas salsa que en Puerto Rico, abre el tema y yo te caigo atras.

Before I came to the Caribbean I thought Salsa was Salsa.
Now I can differentiate Puerto Rican Salsa from Cuban (Sol?) in an instant.

For me, Puerto Rican salsa always seem very jolly while Cuban salsa is a bit more moody.
I did not even know that Dominican Salsa existed until I couldn't place the music I was hearing and had to ask what it was.

I am glad that people listen to this stuff.

    It is good for you.

This thread has been educational for me, actually. I did not know much about Dominican musicians to be honest, because I thought they only play bachata, merengue and raggeatton. I found a whole section in Wikipedia on Dominican Rock. Is it real?

There is even a movie about this genre and bands that play it: YouTube - Dominican Rock: A Documentary (part I)

Does anyone know of real serious Dominican rockers?

I just found a couple of threads on this site about this genre: Good Dominican Rock/Alt music site or blog? - DR1 Dominican Republic Forums

It would be interesting to find out if there are any updates.

Who are some good balada singers other than Aventura? For some reason I don't like JL Guerra's songs too much.

I would have to say that my favorite listening music is balada, bolero and salsa, not necessarily in that order. I could probalby like merengue but nobody plays it anymore other that el fuerte and I might be able to even like bachata if they didn't play it so much.

I even like this music more than the rock and roll I grew up with in the 60's, 70's and 80's. For one it's a lot more positive and two you can actually understand what they are saying and three songs actually make sense as opposed to drug induced jibberish.

Balada singers in the DR are a few because it is not that rentable as singing bachata or merengue, Aventura plays bachata, but with so much class that you may confuse it with a dancing bolero.

Anthony Rios is a notable Balada singer:

Felix D'Oleo is another one, this piece is a pretty good one:

    Whatever happened to Jose Jose??

I usually like a little more 'grunt' in my music, but he was a classic crooner.
