Default 202 and 948 area codes
I'm thinking about buying a skype local telephone number from DR, but the only options they offer are 202 and 948 area codes, which I never heard of before. I did some research online but I couldn't find any website confirming that these are indeed DR area codes.

Does anybody know about this?

The area codes in the Dominican Repubic are 809 and 829, only. The 202 area code is Washington, DC and the 948 area code is not in the United States. I could not find it, definitively, in an online search, but did get one result that said "948-xxx-xxxx is most likely a Sri Lanka number.

I don't believe they are DR area codes but are exclusive to Skype users. At least you can now get an 809 country code for DR on Skype which was not available 2 years ago. I have a 202 number and it works fine.

809 & 829 are the only Dominican area codes.
According to Skype support they offer 1-829-202/948 XXXX numbers!
Skype Community > Skype In Dominican Republic "All circuits are busy" Signal

Exactly... I got one of them... however, while the one I have in the US works perfectly the 809-202-xxxx one here works badly. It usually does not connect, sounds busy or otherwise connects callers anywhere but to me.
