Well, YOU above all do know that the people behind Sirena and other businesses are quite powerful and well connected. So, is the architects office which does most of the work for them.
I think this is being controlled directly from "up above" in Santo Domingo and the Puerto Plata town hall is being advised to oblige.
The Subsecretaria de Turismo has some influence in Coastal regions as it collects taxes on bed rooms and has a say on what can or cannot be build here and there... I'd reckon that some pencil pusher somewhere down the line did not quite get the message from "up above"... or maybe wanted to try to raise dickens as we are in an election period. Not something that ought to be expected to stop the people behind Sirena and all others interested. So. I would like to think that this will go down as only a blip in the history which I feel confident we will witness unfolding on our Malecon.

The architect which works with me in Santo Domingo has tried to get some plans or elevation renderings but to no avail. It really seem important to the power that are, to keep this as obscure as possible... I don't know if the neighbors will have any right of insight and objection... actually, I doubt it.

But so far all that's just my opinion. ... J-D.

Ah! 'Redesigned' The neighbours are going to find it's quite the 'party scene' aren't they? 'Según las declaraciones del Gobernador los nuevos planos incluyen un gran parqueo para los clientes del multicentro, bares, restaurantes y otras amenidades propias de este tipo de comercios'...........

But the good news is that now there are, allegedly, nuevos planos they can't have any good reason for not letting you see them. Right?

Yep, and not only did they resolve a building stop within 24 hrs but as you point out, they redesigned the whole mall and added a parking lot within that very same time frame. Glory Hallelujah! Aren't we all just believers?
And people come and post here about the bureaucracy and everything being s l o w ?
Everything went so quickly the machine operators couldn't hit the brakes on their diggers and trucks hard enough and "ooopslala"... the spook was over before they ever had a chance to stop.

Isn't that lovely?

I need to make friends with some of the neighbors... maybe I'd get to see some drawings... but I'd doubt it.

BTW, the dominican version of the Walmart website is currently under construction.

Here, look at this (notice the internet code ".do" for the DR at the end of the web address : www.walmart.com.do

-NALs
Nombre Dominio : WALMART.COM.DO
Nombre Organización : WAL-MART.COM
Contacto Administrativo : Wal-Mart NetNames
Contacto Técnico : DNS MASTER
Contacto Facturación : ACCOUNTING MANAGER
Fecha de Registro : 12 de Junio del 2000
Fecha de Expiración : 12 de Junio del 2009
Servidor Primario : HERTZ.NETSOL.COM 208.202.120.227
Servidor Secundario : CURIE.NETSOL.COM 208.226.58.67

The domain IS under Wal-Mart's ownership, so I doubt very much that they would shell out a lot of money for an established biz in the DR just to get some already up and running RE...

Contrary to popular gossip here, Wal-Mart to this date has not made any investment in the DR, nor has it bought any chain out as reported.

I contacted the International operations mgmt. via the investors’ disclosure contacts and was told that NO investment was made into the DR in the past or developing quarter of this financial year.

Hogwash! No Wal-Mart in the DR for a while…
