Question US dollar vs Can dollar at cambios in Puerto Plata

Us dollar is droping in value very quickly in Canada. Today the rate was 98.6 CDN to 100US. Has this affected the exchange rate of CDN to peso yet? Does anyone know the latest exchange rate at a cambio not in a hotel - actual bank exchange? Hotels always give a very low rate of exchange.

take your US$, around 33 peso's
World markets showed 32 peso's for CDN$ but I don't think you will find it that way in the DR

If you use an ATM, you will get the correct value for the CDN dollar.
If you change here, in banks or with money changers, you get screwed.
It's better to change your CDN to US currency in your home country, even if it costs you a small percentage.
You will gain it back here, and more.

You think?
Today's exchange rate, $1,000 CDN to US
Quote:
Wednesday, September 19, 2007
1,000 Canadian Dollar = 975.562 US Dollar
975.562 X 33.4 = 32,583 (This is the actual rate from money changers)
When you changed at 30 with your "cambio", $1,000 CDN would have given you 30,000 pesos.
Now... Tell me you didn't get screwed.

Rocky is absolutely correct - take money from the ATM at reputable banks. You WILL get screwed at the cambios. They do not particularly want Canadian dollars here! They will screw you on the exchange rate. ONCE in a while you can find a good rate but not often.

I just had a vision for a business idea from a good friend on PM. There seems to be a HUGE demand to send money from Canada to the Animation departments in various Playa Dorado resorts. Perhaps I will set up some sort of a wire transfer service that is more cost efficient than Western Union and converts CAD to Dominican Pesos. As demand for the service increases, of course the spread between the two pairs will decrease, an inverse relationship to the other spread!

tambo'
