Default Sosua Shoot Out or Firecrackers

Last night there were some heavy fire works around Cheramigos, or at least it
sounded like it.
This morning our guard told me that it was a fire fight that started in El Batey,
went to Cheramigos and on to Montellano. Tonight he stated that 2 people
were killed in Cheramigos and one in Montellano.
Does any body have any information on this? If it was a fire fight, there must
have been many people envolved in it.
We are getting almost nightly shots being fired around Cheramigos but this
last night, if it was a fight, it was a war.

Heard it also, but I think it was more than 4-5 shots... regardless scarrrry. I am sure the police will investigate this case in a professional manner.

Yup - we know that situation well. We waited 2 hours for someone to show up on Sunday morning!! Any idea on why they didn't come?

Sorry, can't give any update on Los Charamicos shoot out but doubtless Lambada will do a newspaper check & give us the latest in due course! ~ Grahame

Default No Firecrackeres

The shots that were heared around 9:20 p.m. near La Costera may have
been the beginning of the war. The real shooting took place much later
after midnight. It seemed to start around the Playa Sosua area and continued
along the highway through Cheramicos up to Montellano. Apparently the
radio reported one dead in Cheramicos and one policeman in the hospital
in Puerto Plata with a gunshot wound.
What ever transpired sounded like a free for all with many, many shots from
a number of different guns from full automatics to shotguns and others
inbetween.
I was also informed that there was a big police action this morning along the
highway coming in to Sosua. With police stopping and searching vehicles
and frisking people.

Default Drug/gang/police/shootout

WELL!!! Whatever occurred very early Monday morning rivalled a small town American 4th of July celebration. Would have preferred to accept the "fire cracker theory" but now we know otherwise. Sad and most disturbing to learn of that much fire power out there on the streets.

Yeap, that place is probably the safest place to search - for THE POLICE... Outside Playa Laguna right? I mean it could be dangerous to go into the areas where the criminals actually might be... Just a show.

Default question about jail

I was talking to a friend this morning (he is Dominican and lives in the neighbourhood where the shots took place). He told me that many people were taken to jail last night in Sosua and some have been released. He heard the shots around 2:00 or so in the morning when it happened.

My question is this--my friend says it seemed the police were picking people up randomly (last night--not the night it happened) on the street, people that had nothing to do with the shootings--is this normal?
