Police clearance certificates for Canada from Italy
Hi,
Anyone ever have to get a police clearance certificate from Italy?
My husband lived in Italy for ten years about ten years ago... hence we need police clearance certificates from there (in the case of Italy there are two), after contacting Italian embassies in the DR and in Quebec we mailed Italy requests for both certificates, a conferimento de delega (to authorize my receipt of the answer), money order 16.43 euros (cost of the two certificates), and a return enveloppe to me... dunno if that will work... (no return shipping cost was know of by either authority) or how long it will take...
Immigration Canada said it was ok to submit before we got them as long as we submitted an explanatory letter saying it was on the way...

Hopefully someone will have an answer for you but it sounds like you have taken the right steps.
In our case, we also had to submit some documents later. We included a letter of explanation with the original application so that immigration knew we hadn't forgotten or overlooked it.
As soon as we had the documents we sent them in with another letter of explanation.
Any idea how long it takes to get the police clearances back?
Good Luck!

No, no idea. The italian embassy in Santo Domingo said they knew nothing about it, the embassy in Montreal knew what documents we were looking for, provided forms and knew the cost of the documents themselves, recommended I send the request by registered mail... but could not answer me with regards to any fee the Procura in Italy might charge to send the documents to Canada or wether or not the form I found (on another website) where my husband requests me to receive the forms on his behalf (which usually applies to in person pick-up of the docs) would be accepted or understood there... i.e. will they send me the answer at all? and if so how long will it take... Now we wait I guess...

I asked about this on another visa forum and was given this answer:
He/she will have to " apply in writing to the Procura della Repubblica or at the nearest Italian consulate or embassy."
See here: How to obtain a police certificate - Italy
Is this the process that you have followed so far?

I did see that page on the Immigration Canada website. The Italian Embassy in Montreal gave me the cost of the two certificates (international money order for EUR 16.43 *1st link below) and suggested that I send the written request (in Italian a sample is available * 2nd link below) by registered mail (they had no idea how long it might take to get a reply).
Per ottenere il richiesto certificato del Casellario Giudiziale deve inviare
Richiesta casellario giudiziale
My concern was they did not specify any cost for the return mail (only the cost of the documents themselves) + I sent a faxed copy of the forms my husband signed not originals (as the first set he filled out was quite different from the example on the embassy website). In addition, I wanted the reply to be sent to me in Canada, not to my husband in the DR, so I added a form that I found on another website, called a Conferimento Delega (which you can find on page two of the "Certificato del casellario giudiziale" document on the website below) which I hope they will understand...

I mailed this out on Aug. 31st, it has been in Italy according to Canada Post since the Sept. 2nd. but there is no delivery confimation as of yet. So still waiting to see...

I got 'em!
I received both the:
Certificato dei Carichi Pendenti
Certificato Generale del Cassellario Giudiziale
I requested from the Procura Reppubblica de Roma - Casellario Giudiziale -
I mailed the requests (3) pages, an international money order for the value of both documents EUR 16.43 and a self address enveloppe on Sept. 1st registered mail, so they arrived in less than 3 weeks.
I am SO happy!!!
Here are the letters if anyone needs them:

Tiguerita has said she sent an international money order for 16.43 Euros to cover the costs of both documents.
I would think you would send double that amount to cover you & your wife.
CIC website also states that you can go to your local Italian consulate to request these documents as well. I assume that if you are in the US right now, there would be an Italian consulate within driving distance.
This forum and tiguerita's experience is for citizens of the Dominican Republic applying for visas to Canada. There is not an Italian consulate in the Dominican Republic so they have to send the forms overseas.
