We have just returned from an excellent two week holiday at the RIU Bachata. The hotel is only ten months old and everything is 1st class, the location - right next to a long sandy beach with plenty of shade if needed, the food - spoilt for choice, we even had a tour around the kitchens which were spotless and had separate temperature controlled rooms for each type of Meat, Fish and Salad! There are endless cocktails to try and if it's not on the list they will make it up for you! There is entertainment provided all day long for adults and children and if you want to find a quiet corner to sunbathe on the beach its there too. The only problem we have is.....how do we top this on our next holiday!

just returned from riu bachata. If your
a non smoker stay away, cigarette smoke everywhere. rooms stunk of smoke, hallways stunk of smoke,
dining area stunk of smoke, beach
stunk of smoke, very hard to avoid the smoke as smoking is allowed everywhere. If your a smoker you will be in heaven.

My husband and I stayed at Riu Merengue February 2004. I was violently ill on the third day of a two week stay. Hard to believe almost 2 years later people are still getting sick. I was throwing up and had diarrhoea for a almost 3 days.
The fist day of my illness was the worst. I was ill for three straight days. I had the chills and sweats. I did not feel like myself until 6 days later. If were to fly out of the DR on the first day I could not have done it. I couldn't walk 10 feet without needing a bathroom. As another person said I wouldn't go back if you paid my flight and accommodation! Several people we spoke to at the resort were ill too, but not as severely as I was. I felt bad for my husband who couldn't leave the room (except to eat) and took care of me for three straight days. It is too bad because the beach area was beautiful - lots of shade and chairs and the resort in itself was nice. The food was disappointing. I would not recommend staying at any of the Riu hotels.

I have been taking overseas holidays since 1964. I can state with confidence the Riu Bachata experience was one of the best ever. Superb location ,fantastic service from the very friendly staff. Excellent food.
A tremendous value for money holiday!

One of the best vacation ever! I have visited a few in DR and Riu bachata, Manbo and Merengue are all great, the best one is Bachata.
If you are still planning your vacation please do not o go to Sun Village Resort, the wrost food the staff I mean the resort itself is beautiful but the service and the food nothing compare to bachata.

Returned from the Riu Bachata on Jan.11, 2005. There is a virus and it is wide spread. 80% of the guests are falling ill. It has become an epidemic! Don't book or proceed with caution! The resort is beautiful - so this is a shame - but you can't enjoy your vacation if you are sick in your room for three days!

I am going in one week, and having just read all the comments I can't wait, it sounds great. There will be 20 of us (a wedding party), and now I know it will be just great.

In January a group of 18 of us went to the Bachata. It was amazing. The weather was great and the people were great as well. The live shows at night were very well done. If you are going to get your hair braided don't go off the island till the day you want it done. They say it will take 20 mins but they really takes an hour and a half. It is cheaper to go off the island but I would suggest going to the hair salon and paying a little extra which is located right on the bachata down by all the stores. I would reccomend this resort to anyone. The people sure make you laugh and they would do anything for you. Have fun on your hoildays

Thank you to all of you who have posted positive comments. I however cannot yet, the reason being myself + fiancee are flying out on the 05/04 for the first time. I`m very sorry if your still talking about the good times you had and the last thing you need whilst you have come crashing back to earth with a thump is some smart arse letting you all know that we have all this pleasure to come. You have all helped us get very excited about our trip and for that I thank you. Dos cerveza por favor senor. Adios amigos.

I sent a week at the RIU BACHATA (in January 2004) and I had the best time ever. The food was great, the pools were nice and refreshing and the entertainment was amazing. I would recommend anyone to go there. The price was reasonable and the weather was sunny and hot for the entire week. We also went on the Catamaran boat tour, that was a great time and I won a bottle of rum. Overall I give the trip a 10/10 and i'm thinking about going there next year

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Riu Bachata. What a great holiday.

The hotel is great, the food fantastic and the animation team - excellente, excellente, excellente.

November is the rainy season, and boy did it rain some days, but it was still very hot and plenty of sun. Even when it rained you could still sit under your umbrella by the pool.

You can use the facilities of the other 2 hotels (Riu Meregue and Riu Mambo), but we didn't bother. We had everything we needed at the Buchata.

The staff are friendly and will do what ever they can to help you.

The food is just out of this world, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is all cooked to perfection with something for everyone's taste.

The breakfasts were particularly good with great pancakes and doughnuts made fresh every day. Not very good for the figure though!!

The resort is very clean and the swimming pool and gardens are very nice. Lots of butterflies and birds flying around.

The only unwelcome guests are the mosquitoes. The only thing that keeps them at bay are products with DEET. Nothing else works.

The animation team go out of their way to make you welcome and the shows at night are very good.

If you are booked at the Buchata, Merengue or Mambo you are certainly in for a treat.

Happy holiday.

I just returned from a weeding vacation @ the Riu Bachata and what a trip! It was definitely in paradise. Every morning when I woke up, I just couldn't believe how well the staff treated our group of 14! There was more than I expected. The facilities were too generous and the food was amazing! It was a little city within a city. I'm planning to go again next year, but only with 1 thing different, I'm going for 2 weeks instead of only 1!
