Just came back from Casa Del Mar in La Romana last night. It was a beautiful resort, only about 25 minutes from the La Romana airport. The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated. Each room had a little porch area or balcony depending on your floor. maid service was excellant. they cleaned your rooms through the day and came back through at night to see if you needed water or towels. The only problem we had with our room was the water pressure was really low. Showering was alright but the toilet needed more water pressure to flush correctly.(My family was in a room right next to us and the pressure was great in their room!). the resort grounds were kept very clean and the beach was beautiful. Enough lounge chairs to go around without having to get upat 6 AM to save one. The buffet food was good, not great but good. Everynight it seemed like the same foods were offered. On Friday they had advertised " and elegant grand buffett" and I didn't notice any difference from the nights before. They had a 'jungle bar" restaurant with seafood that I heard was wonderful. That was not included in your all inclusive(It was25$) The animation shows were very entertaining and the staff did try to keep you entertained and accupied. This was my first sunscape resort stay. I would recomend this resort. They also had free horseback riding. I enjoyed that but the horses were not kept well. They were so skinny and some had bleeding rub marks form their saddles. One horse was lame and they put my sister on it, she had to tell them something was wrong and there happened to be a nail in the horses foot, they pulled it out and poured gasoline in the wound.

We spent two weeks at Casa Del Mar. The property is large and beautifully situated. It compares well with the many resorts where we stayed.
The gardens are superb and the beach is very good. The food is good for a resort. There is much variety and 2 of the four a la carte restaurants (Da Mario and the Grill are quite good)
The staff is plenty, friendly and willing but they are not well managed. They need better training , organizational direction and supervision.
Here are some examples:
1. our room needed a coat of paint, lighting was too low for people with weak vision. There were rust stains where a pipe had leaked and the water pressure and drainage were problems.
2. We had booked horseback riding - they left 15 minutes earlier than scheduled. We missed the ride.
3. On one evening each week they have a pool party. Only one restaurant is open on that night, Da Mario. Demand was high. After a while, people who arrived in pairs were told they would have to wait for a table for two. We had three tables for two that were free around us for the whole 40 some minutes those couples waited unnecessarely.
4. One of the resort's main attractions is a coral reef immediately beside the beach. Many of the guests enjoyed snorkling there. One Sunday morning, security personnel prevented guests from swimming there because the Director of the hotel wanted to take some friends motor boating. There is an orientation problem there.

This week we are going back to the Dominican Republic. We selected another resort.
