|Delta to fly to Punta Cana
Delta is accepting bookings for its new Atlanta-Punta Cana flight scheduled to
start Saturday, 19 November. This would be the first direct scheduled flight
from Atlanta to the Dominican Republic. Delta already flies to Santo Domingo and
Santiago from John F. Kennedy International in New York.
The airline would be using a 738 aircraft for the daily Punta Cana-Atlanta
flight. The flight (DL 1049) would depart Atlanta at 9:50 am arriving to Punta
Cana at 2:20 pm daily. The return flight would leave Punta Cana at 3:30 and
arrive in Atlanta at 6:20 pm. The flight is showing a US$728 fare with all taxes
and government fees included.
The flight is subject to government approval.
The flight comes in time for the winter season traffic. Punta Cana this summer
was the sixth most popular international destination with the US travelers,
according to a survey carried out by the American Society of Travel Agents.
DR1 sources also indicate that United has applied for permission to fly to Punta
Cana effective early December and Continental will be starting Houston-Punta
Cana this December, too.

|Good year for Sosua and Cabarete
Xiomara Desimone, executive director of the Association of Hotels & Restaurants
of Sosua and Cabarete, reports that while 2004 was a very good year for area
hotels, 2005 will be even better. She points out that hotel occupancy ranged
from a minimum 71.16% to a max of 93.09% with an annual average of 80.87% in
So far this year, the Association is reporting average occupancy of 87.37%. She
points out that occupancy increases have been consistent so far. “This means
that we are achieving our main goal of repositioning the area of Sosua and
Cabarete both at a national and international level.”
Desimone expects that the repaving of the Maimon-Rio San Juan highway will
contribute to record arrivals in 2005.
|Mega Dominican baseball players
This year at least 100 Dominicans will enter the exclusive 100 RBI club. These
are Manny Ramirez (92), David Ortiz (87), Alex Rodriguez (80), Albert Pujols
(78), Aramis Ramirez (73), Alfonso Soriano (68), Miguel Tejada (66), Vladimir

out to bat in 120 runs this year, which would make it his 6th season batting in
so many runs. The case of Alex Rodriguez is similar to that of Manny Ramirez.
Alex Rodriguez, with 712 runs batted in, leads all active players in the past
Meanwhile, Sammy Sosa batted his 586th homerun on Tuesday, 26 July. He is tied
with Frank Robinson in the 5th place of the best sluggers in the history of
Major League Baseball.
|Small hotels on DR1
The Internet is an excellent resource for those interested in contacting small hotels in the Dominican Republic. Many of these are located in areas that offer attractive dining and adventure tourism attractions for all day excursions outside of the hotel of choice. The DR1 selection of small hotels is growing every week and more and more hotels are signing up to showcase their services to the world market.
