|Czech and Polish flights
CSA from the Czech Republic and Podroze TV from Poland will begin charter flights to transport tourists to the Dominican Republic from these two new European cities starting this fall and continuing through the European winter months. The Czech flights begin in October and the Polish flights start in November. Podroze TV executives hope to transport 35,000 tourists to the DR, Tourism Minister Felix Jimenez said when announcing the new market.
The Polish flight will bring tourists to Puerto Plata hotels, with Hacienda Tropical, Paraiso del Sol/Camino, Occidental Allegro Playa Dorada and Occidental Gran Flamenco, and Amhsa Paradise Beach Club being the first to receive them. The flight will also bring tourists to Punta Cana, with Polish tourists headed for the Gran Flamenco Punta Cana, the Amhsa Grand Paradise Bavaro. Polish tourists have also been booked for the Occidental Playa Real Juan Dolio.
|Sea Horse Ranch riding competition
The Sea Horse Ranch 1st Jumping Competition will take place on the same weekend of the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival: October 21-23, 2005. The event will feature national and international champions in a variety of categories, including adult and kids' riding teams from Santo Domingo. Sea Horse Ranch is located on the north coast highway between Sosua and Cabarete. The events kick off at 2 pm on Friday and on Saturday and Sunday events begin at 9 am. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Security gate attendants will guide visitors to the "Centro Ecuestre" at Sea Horse Ranch. Sponsor booths will include fine retail items, beverage promo and tack and equestrian merchandise.

|Good-bye to Don Ramon
An icon of the tourism industry, Don Ramon Prieto passed away on Tuesday, 18 October. Much loved by all who knew him, he was one of the visionaries of the Dominican tourism industry, having started Prieto Tours, pioneer of tour operators in the country. The Prieto family also pioneered the development of resort tourism in Samana, with its Portillo Beach Resort. He is survived by his children, Ramon, Esteban and Carmen Rosa.
The Dominican Winter Baseball Season kicks off this Wednesday, 19 October with games at the Quisqueya Ball Park in Santo Domingo (Licey vs. Escogido) and the Cibao Ball Park in Santiago (Aguilas vs. Gigantes), and Frank Micheli Ball park in La Romana (Estrellas vs. Azucareros). The match between the Santo Domingo teams of Escogido Lions and Licey Tigers, Aguilas (Eagles) from Cibao (Santiago), Toros/Azucareros of La Romana, Estrellas (Stars) from San Pedro de Macoris, and Giants from San Francisco de Macoris feature many a Major League Baseball star once their US Major League commitments are over. Games played in Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Romana, Santiago and San Francisco de Macoris stadiums. Regular season is over in December. Playoffs are in January, and finals are in first week of February to choose the Dominican team to represent the country in the Caribbean Series.
|7th Dominican Republic Jazz Festival
Puerto Plata Jazz Festival scheduleThe organizing committee of the 7th Dominican Republic Jazz Festival is announcing some changes in the program for the 20-22 October event. The Thursday, 20 October opening will now take place indoors at the Cibao Theater in Santiago de los Caballeros, about half an hour's drive from Puerto Plata. Scheduled to appear for the opening evening is Sandy Gabriel & Puerto Plata Jazz Ensemble and contemporary jazz maestro Gonzalo Rubalcaba (USA). Ticket prices are: RD$300. The event continues with a Friday, 21 October performance at Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata. TES A T (DR), Ari Hoenig (USA), Bellita y Jazz Tumbata (Cuba) will be performing and admission to this concert is free. The closing evening is on Saturday, 22 October at Sosua's Amhsa Casa Marina hotel amphitheater. Performing are the great jazz maestro Chucho Valdes (Cuba) and Ramon Vazquez Trio (Puerto Rico).
