Sol Airlines new flights
The Brazil- based Sol Airlines, with Dominican registration HI, is ready to start its operations to nine destinations. Airline general manager Jose Jourdain, speaking in Diario Libre, says that the airline will be using Boeing 767-200 planes with capacity for 224 and a British Aerospace BAE-146 that can seat up to 106. The airline expects to begin operations in July with an investment of US$18 million. Jourdain explained that the airline plans to fly to Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Toronto, Cancun, Curacao, Aruba and Caracas. Sol will be flying out of the La Romana International Airport.

DR to participate in Epcot Festival
The Dominican Republic will be participating in the 12th Annual Epcot International Food and Wine Festival 2007 from 28 September to 11 November at Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida. The Ministry of Tourism sees this as an outstanding promotional opportunity. Zahra Soltani, Nora Carey, Ben May and Stephen Silvestri, of Walt Disney, visited to coordinate the Dominican participation.
Samana highway details
The Ministry of Public Works announces that 98% of the 106-km expressway linking Santo Domingo and Samana has been opened, with 10% of the thoroughfare already asphalted, the 13 kilometers to the Carretera Mella crossing. The highway is expected to be open to the public as early as January 2008. At the present time, most resources are directed at the construction of 12 bridges. Engineer Armin Ricardo Garcia Acuna, president of Autopistas del Nordeste, the concessionaire, said that the six first bridges will be ready by July, another four by September and October and the rest in December. The funds for the construction will be recovered at three toll booths located at the rossing of Las Americas and Mella Highway, Villa Mella-Monte Plata and Bayaguana-Cruce de Molinillos. Minister of Public Works said that the highway is costing US$151 million and shorten the distance from Santo Domingo to Samana to about the same time an hour and a half time, making that destination's beach areas as close as getting to La Romana, for instance. At present, it takes about four hours to travel to beach destinations in Samana from Santo Domingo. From the Las Americas Highway to Rincon de Molinillos is 106 kilometers. The distance to Samana is 170 kms by this route.
Cabarete kiteboard event
Sailing world eyes are on Cabarete as it prepares to kick off the third stop of six on the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association 2007 World Tour. The event starts with the qualifying competition to choose the four men and two women that will represent the DR, on the 28th and 29th of June. The event will be held in front of Kite Beach Hotel on Kite Beach.
The event continues with the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association 2007 World Tour competitions, with US$40,000 in prize money. Cabarete is known as a prime kiteboarding destination for its warm waters, protected bay and consistent winds. It is one of the oldest PKRA World Tour events and has been held every year since the start of the tour in 2001. Organizers point out that remarkably in the men's division there has never being a repeating champion in is competition history, demonstrating the competitiveness of the event.
