Scotty McCreery plays Santa Claus
American Idol season 10 winner, Scotty McCreery (www.scottymccreery-official.com/bio/default.aspx), will be flying to the Dominican Republic on December 27th and staying until December 31st to participate in 'Operation Christmas Child', a large global Christmas project supported by Samaritan Purse, a non-denominational evangelical Christian humanitarian organization that works worldwide to assist people in physical need alongside their Christian missionary work. The organization's president is Franklin Graham, son of Christian evangelist Billy Graham.
McCreery will help to hand out gift boxes filled with toys, school supplies and other items to the children of the Dominican Republic who are in need of help. Operation Christmas Child's goal this year is to deliver boxes to 8.5 million children this year.
McCreery charmed American audiences when he appeared on the program and made a name for himself with his deep country voice in May 2011. His win of season ten of American Idol was with a record-breaking 122.4 million votes cast for the finale.

New option to travel SDQ-MAD
Travelers between Santo Domingo and Madrid now have more options and this means more competition and better prices for travelers. Air Pullmantur will be flying on the route that is already covered by competitive Air Europa and traditional carrier Iberia.
Air Pullmantur has flown charter flights to the DR for the past nine years and now announces regular weekly flights on the Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) to Barajas, Madrid (MAD) route. Air Europa has proved a strong competitor to Iberia with its much-awaited seasonal off-peak specials and its flexible luggage policies. Iberia has a strong loyalty among OneWorld frequent flier club affiliation with American Airlines.
Air Pullmantur flies a 747-400 Jumbo on the route, known for seating room, shorter flying time on the route and large cargo capacity. Passengers will be allowed 64 kilos of luggage in addition to carry-on luggage, almost three times as much as the leading competitor.
Three Kings Long Weekend
The longest weekend of the year will probably be the Three Kings Day holiday. Three Kings Day actually falls on Friday, 6 January, but the Ministry of Labor has set its celebration for Monday, 9 January. As Dominicans will still be recovering from partying on 1 January, many who can to take time off from Thursday, 5 January are not likely to get back to work until Tuesday, 10 January. Some universities reopen in the first week of January, but most elementary and high schools don't resume until Tuesday. Likewise, these are not good days to start anything serious, as people's minds will still be enjoying the last days of the long Dominican Christmas holidays.

Worthy cultural exhibition
The Centro de Inventario de Bienes e Inmuebles del Ministerio de Cultura, an office that deals with property monitored by the Ministry of Culture, mainly the architectural heritage of Dominicans, has organized an exhibition on "How People Live in the Colonial City." The exhibition is at the center's location at Luperon at the intersection with Hostos street, opposite the ruins of San Nicolas de Bari Hospital in the Colonial City. It is open from 8am to 4pm and from 7:30 to 10pm. Free admission.
