New board at Santo Domingo Hotel Association
The Santo Domingo Hotel Association has chosen the general manager of the Hotel Renaissance Jaragua, Eduardo Reple to lead the organization in 2012-2014. The new board members are Eduardo Reple, president; Roberto Henriquez, vice president; Kurt Tschamper, treasurer; Aura Nunez de Dominguez, secretary; Hector Concari, Odalis Guzman and Olmedo Herrera, directors and Lina Matos, executive director. The organization works closely with the Ministry of Tourism and other entities to position Santo Domingo as a destination in international markets. The new board will focus on the need to implement projects for the recovery and improvement of city attractions so they can be better appreciated by visitors, who are described as "our lead global ambassadors." Likewise, the board said they would take actions to improve security, cleanliness and order in the destination.
The new board called for all institutions to work together, mentioning the Ministry of Tourism, National Association of Hotels & Tourism, Ministry of Culture, City of Santo Domingo Municipality, Politur, among others.
The board said it would continue to work on institutional strengthening and attracting new members.
Santo Domingo prepares for Caribbean Baseball Series
Set to open in Santo Domingo on 2 February, the Caribbean Series matches the winning teams from Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The 2012 series will carry a special dedication to Dominican ball players who played in the Major League Baseball World Series - Albert Pujols, Rafael Furcal and Octavio Dotel playing for the champions St. Louis Cardinals, and Nelson Cruz, Adrian Beltre, Esteban German, Neftali Feliz and Alexis Ogando for the Texas Rangers.
The Caribbean Baseball Series will take place in Santo Domingo from 2-7 February 2012. The games will be played at the Quisqueya Ball Park. This is the 53rd year of the tournament that brings together the best of Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
Cofresi Palm Beach & Spa
Lifestyle Holidays is promoting its Cofresi Palm Beach & Spa Resort as its newest jewel in its collection of properties in Puerto Plata.
The resort has been known in the past as Sun Village, prior to it being managed as BeLive Grand Carey/Ambar, and is now rebranded as Cofresi Palm Beach & Spa Resort under Lifestyle Holidays.
The sprawling property has 468 rooms and 12 swimming pools, two spas and two discotheques.
The hotel has ample variety of accommodations ranging from:
18 adults-only spa suites, 208 family friendly standard rooms, 180 oceanfront rooms, 60 residences for long-term rentals and 2 ocean view penthouses. The hotel has been granted the OK Kosher Certification.
General manager Daniel Ferra said the resort is the fifth Lifestyle property in the Puerto Plata area. The others are Presidential Suites by Lifestyle, The Tropical, The Crown Suites and the Residence Suites.
Alice in Wonderland at the National Theater
The National Black Light Theater of Prague presents a multi-visual production of Alice in Wonderland at the National Theater in Santo Domingo this coming 4 and 5 February 2012. Follow Alice as she wanders through her dream world. The event, a benefit for Save the Children Dominicana, is presented by Sugar Events.

Frontier to fly to Punta Cana (PUJ)
Frontier Airlines recently received United States approval to operate year-round services from Chicago to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, beginning 1 June. The connection is one to consider for travelers connecting through gateways at Denver, St. Louis and Baltimore/Washington.
