Agani cattle ranching fair in Higuey
One of the best horse shows in the Caribbean will be taking place as part of the Nisibon Cattle Ranchers (Agani) Agricultural Fair at Km. 4 of the Higuey-Bavaro highway, just outside of the city of Higuey. The show, now in its 24th year, starts at 3pm on Friday, 16 August with the majestic "paso higueyano" horses, bred exclusively in the east, on display. The horse show is part of a series of events organized by Agani every year. This year the fair will be held from 14-18 August. This is also an opportunity to see some of the best breeds from the country's cattle ranching eastern region.
Delicious soursop ice cream at Helados Bon
Tasting the fruits of the land is a top treat for travelers. Visitors to the Dominican Republic should head for one of the more than 300 Helados Bon ice cream shops nationwide and order a cup or "barquito" of "helado de guanabana."
Guanabana or soursop (Annona muricata) is a green and irregularly shaped fruit whose creamy white pulp can be eaten fresh and has traditionally been made into shakes, smoothies and other foods and beverages, but it is not so easy to find here.
Now Helados Bon makes it easy to taste this delicious tropical fruit.
Helados Bon also sells sorbets and popsicles made with passion fruit, coconut and tamarind.
