Cirque du Soleil starts in Punta Cana in June
Club Med CREACTIVE by Cirque du Soleil debuts at Club Med Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic in June, according to a report in USA Today. The program for adults and children to learn circus skills as part of the Club Med vacation plan under the supervision of instructors trained by Cirque du Soleil is on schedule.
Circus training has always been part of Club Med Punta Cana since its start in 1978. By involving Cirque du Soleil, the resort adds a new dimension to the entertainment package.
"This new concept will leverage, for the benefit of Club Med guests, the expertise and knowledge of Cirque du Soleil, who are unrivaled innovators in the realm of circus artistry," says Henri Giscard d'Estaing, Club Med's CEO, as reported in USA Today. "It will also capitalize on Club Med's experience and talent for creating extraordinary memories in beautiful vacation destinations."
Other activities that guests will be able to try include high bungee jumping, unicycle, tumbling and juggling. They can also participate in artistic activities such as percussion and dance and mask painting.

Ocoa Bay report in CNN
A recent CNN report by real estate expert John Defterios focuses on the Dominican Republic's first claim to eno-tourism, or wine-growing tourism. The journalist visited The Ocoa Bay winery and real estate development in Palmar de Ocoa, a 90-minute drive southwest of Santo Domingo. For the first time specially designed vineyard plots that allow residents to produce their own wine are part of the real estate offering, under architect Gabriel Acevedo.
Acevedo explains that the area's uniquely dry climate that receives an average 600mm of rainfall per year is what sustains the development of the vineyard by the sea.
He told CNN that the construction of the first 30 ecological and vineyard villas are scheduled to begin in December 2015 with 33% pre-sold.
He added that in just over two years, Ocoa Bay has had five successful harvests. While volumes produced remain low, experts say that quality is high.
"It's the new Napa Valley of the Caribbean," Acevedo said. "The new Bordeaux or Rioja. A unique and new destination in the Caribbean."

Samana makes Top Ozy 25 vacation places
The Dominican Republic's scenic Samana peninsula has been chosen as one of the Top Ozy 25 vacation destinations for the first week of April. Reporter Sharon Sims acknowledges that most people who think of the DR think of Punta Cana or La Romana, before advising travelers who are not into all-inclusive resort vacations and golf to take a look at what she describes as "a strange little mutant crab claw, the Samana Peninsula. "Samana is a place where horses roam the beaches and fish are sold out of truck beds, where dirt roads lead past fruit stands to deserted turquoise waters, where the smoke of grilled street meat billows on lazy Saturday nights," she writes. "It's easy to make friends in a place like this, and it's easy to not leave. And that's not even mentioning the spectacular whale watching or the diving".
