PAWA starts new flights to Caribbean destinations
This coming August, Pawa starts its first flights to Aruba, Curacao and St. Maarten. The airline is marketing to the hundreds of thousands of Dominicans that live in those islands. The airline has programmed 24 flights a week starting 14 August 2015.
The airline says next it plans to connect the Dominican Republic to San Juan, Puerto Rico; Havana, Miami and New York in six months time.
Upon making the announcement of the start of flights, Pawa corporate affairs director Alexander Barrios said the plan is to turn the Dominican Republic into the Caribbean hub par excellence. He said the airline also has plans to fly to Kingston, Nassau, Port of Spain, Port-au-Prince and other cities that would be better served with direct flights from Santo Domingo. He said their plan is to turn the Las Americas International Airport into a hub for Caribbean passengers.
In addition to serving passenger needs, the airline is also focusing on cargo needs of Dominican exporters. The airline will focus on regional routes that are not fully served by competitors.

Pre clearance coming to Punta Cana International
Punta Cana could soon become the first Dominican airport to offer pre-clearance facilities for entering the United States. This means that passengers flying out through PUJ would clear US immigration and customs in the Dominican Republic, allowing for an expedited entry into the United States. The facility at the present time is offered in 15 international airports around the world.
The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it has begun negotiations to expand its Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) preclearance program to ten new foreign airports, Punta Cana International Airport included. Other airports are Brussels International Airport (Belgium), Narita International Airport (Tokyo, Japan), Amsterdam Schipol International Airport (Netherlands), Oslo International Airport (Norway), Madrid Barajas International Airport (Spain), Stockholm Arlanda International Airport (Sweden), Istanbul Ataturk International Airport (Turkey) and London Heathrow International Airport and Manchester International Airport (United Kingdom).
Successful CBP programs are in place in Dublin and Shannon (Ireland); Aruba; Freeport and Nassau in The Bahamas; Bermuda; Calgary, Toronto, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Winnipeg in Canada; and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
